        Skeeter Hollow Camp-Us

Skeeter Hollow is a privately owned primitive camping area in Wayland, NY. Amenities include: small grill pavilion with wood-fired grill, fabulous two-seater traditional outhouse, cold water spigot, several fire pits, picnic tables, and a 14x28 timber framed story-and-a-half cabin where we will have daily lunch. Although electricity for charging phones is available at the shop, there is no electricity, hot water nor shower facilities in the nearby camping area. Residents may shower at nearby Stonybrook State Park Campground (daily pass fee involved) or wash up using an on-site cold water spigot. Tents, trailer campers, and RVs are welcome. Perhaps the best part of the Skeeter Hollow Camp-Us is the evening toasting of the breath-taking sunsets viewed from the West end of the property.

Daily Lessons and training will take place traditionally, en plein air and inside our new Workshop facility. Although there is no Wi-Fi on site, there is a strong cell signal. To maximize participation and learning, daily work is physical and requires sustained focus. Since the goal is to raise a frame at the end of the classes, we do need to keep to the daily schedule. Although we will be reasonable with our expectations, students should realize that our classes are not necessarily a vacation. There will be time for relaxing, but the days can be long.

Students are encouraged to bring kayaks or canoes as there are numerous local opportunities for paddling on local Loon Lake as well as pristine Canadice and Hemlock Lakes.

Meals: As we try to make our workshops as affordable as possible, meals are not provided and will be the responsibility of each student. There are several grocery stores, restaurants, and fast food options within 8 miles. We frequently order out from a local deli for lunches.
