WCCS Dining Pavilion
High School STEAM Project - 2016
This project was designed, cut, and raised as part of a High School STEAM class. Students were deeply involved in all aspects including design, milling of logs, layout, joinery, raising, and roofing. The frame features curved braces, kingpost end trusses, an arched center truss with ships knee braces and hammer beams, and prow gable roof ends. The proportions of the structure are based on Phi (Golden Ratio) and mimic the scale of the Parthenon and the end view of the trusses represents an eagle's wings in flight. This frame features decorative walnut pegs and splines as well. Details, details, details! This frame is located on the Wayland-Cohocton Campus and serves as a dining pavilion adjacent to the High School Cafeteria. This frame was cut from Larch trees generously donated by School Board President, David Wallace, harvested by Bob and Rob Hughes, and trucked by Tom Folts. We are very grateful for our incredible benefactors that continue to support our unique educational program.
