Big Beams Timber Frames

This frame was cut during the 2022 Adult Boot Camp Class and the 2023 Expanded Timber Framing Class. It was partially raised during the 2023 Boot Camp Class, with final bents raised during the 2023 Expanded Timber Framing Class. It features a ridge cupola to vent steam from the evaporator as well as a dramatic Sling Brace center bent made from book-matched halves of a single curved cherry log that otherwise would have ended up as firewood. The design combines both square rule and scribe layout methods. We cut a maple leaf "Spirit Hole" in the South end of the cupola and when the sun is just right, it casts a glowing maple leaf image on the North wall.
